Quote from Rick: "The author would doubtless prefer to be graded solely on the accuracy of his forecasts, so I’d say give them some time. For what it’s worth, he asked for anonymity because he was genuinely concerned the world would come banging on his door if and when his predictions came true. "

If he's right, who the heck is going to be left to come banging on his door?

Predictions like this have been around since the dark ages, perhaps even long before.

&&&&&

Skeptics have been around for just as long, and they have sometimes been proven wrong by events. RA

Missed it by one year!

There is a religious sect that predicts judgment day somewhere between 5/21/2011 and 10/21/2011.

Me, I predict that the bottom of this bear market will hit in 2012 and it will feel like the end of the world.

Of course there's always been cataclysmic events, just as certain as man himself is older than civilization. But prophesizing about them is an entirely different game than generalizing from known experiences. And the difference there is about the same as the difference as taking what (and when) happens on any one planet in the universe and comparing it to how planets revolve about the Sun. Apples and fish scales, my friend.

And while I'm here, I might as well rant to the general audience...

I'm an indian. The lineage of my father extends back to at least the glory days of the Aztec empire. As migration took it northwards, it mixed in with varying native blood. So while you're all worshipping my general superiority in the weak pathetic shadows of your general inferiority, I have a few things to say about the superiority of indigenous peoples vs you white devi... uh, Europeans...

We indians never let a thing go to waste. Never mind the mass graves of buffalo found here and there over the years that shows otherwise. You westerners, by comparison, invented the cancer-causing hotdog that also uses everything (especially the cancer!). One would think this an odd thing. One might even say hypocritical. It's okay to consider the indians to be saints for using everything, but not westerners? But we can explain it by simply stating that indians are superior at everything.

(poof) It is done! We indians are better!

And you Europeans are not only so out of touch with the earth that your feet practically levitate off the ground, but we indians had a seperate class called shamans because most of our people were too... stupid... Yeah, too stupid to guide themselves through the complexities of nature. We magical, mystical indian priests and shamans had to do it for them! So given that a lot of indians of the past and present day were apparently quite like ignorant white devils, not only did you invade our lands when you got here, but you also invaded them long before you got here because not _all_ indians were shamans in touch with the earth!

I hope I made my point. And yes, I AM SO an indian! As your god, I command all white liberal-guilted people to stop saying native American! That sounds like something one would here in a welfare office. It's like being called a viking vs being called a native Scandinavian. Which would YOU rather be called? (and if you have a sack of family jewels, you'll pick viking and indian any day!)

But I never said stop worshipping me so... Resume!!!

Oh and one more thing... Wanna know who is truly innocent and pure? The Bushman of the Kalahari desert in Africa. They don't even have words for things like murder, war, theft, deceit, rape, etc. Plenty of indian languages do/did, though. And when it came to violating treaties among themselves and others, the indians were pretty much like any other of the human nature...

Hot-Headed Like Idiot: Who said we can't cross this river?!

Humble Like Level 20 Paladin with 100 Hit Points and 18 Charisma: Big Chief Strongbow make treaty with white people on other side of river. We need to honor pact, or there be trouble...

Hot-Headed: That's buffaloshit, man! If I wanna cross this river, I'm gonna cross this river! And just so you know, goody-two-shoes, I'm going to do this because my human nature isn't any more special than anyone else's!

Goody-Two-Shoes: Hey wait, look... Is that a white guy on our side of the river???

White Devil: Mwuhahaha!!! This is my side of the river! And I _hates_ clean rivers! So I think I'll build my hotdog factory here and give everyone cancer!!! God, I can't do anything right!

Indians are/were no different than anyone else, okay?!

But then again, perhaps that's my white European bloodline speaking, and we all know how evil those Europeans are. But then again, my mother's bloodline goes back into ancient Celtic culture. They were "more in touch" with nature, too. Probably why later on they were forced to work for a landlord, as peasant slaves, quite similar to how indians were forced to live on reservations. Those devils are always subverting nature-loving Avatars...

Okay, I'm done. All I humbly ask is that people _please_ knock of this superiority complex crap. And as your Mighty Aztec God, I say you better...

...or I'll taunt your belief systems a SECOND TIME! (my mother is also part Python Era French ;-)

Early morning market strength fading.
Gartner said gold investors should rush for the exits and gold hit 1206.60 so far. Maybe the downtrend won't move so fast this time, more a slow grating excruciating pain for those on the wrong side of hope for too long...

We have physical evidence of the past in biochemistry, carbon dating, magnetic orientations, rare elements, sedimentary layers, tree rings, watermarks on the Sphinx predating the Great Pyramid and the host of technologies geophysicists developed to show cataclysms were with us for billions of years.
Aristotle, Magi, Mayans and Tibetans knew the Precession of the Equinoxes/Yugas (26,000 years) around a central sun, Precession of the Ecliptic (70,000/100,000 years) and Precession of the Perihelion (ice ages) thousands of years ago that confirmed Einstein's General Theory of Relativity. 2012, rather than the end of the world, may the peak of man's full comprehension and manifestation of conscious energy, magnetism and matter as Earth, Pluto, the Sun and our galaxy align with the central sun of the universe....

In the writer's own words: "I write this anonymously, and am writing it at Rick’s request." ..."Rick has asked me to outline the impact of potential future geological events on the U.S. economy."

So, how does the author do and what do we learn from his assignment?

Again, in his own words, filtering out the "filler," prophesies we have all heard many times since we were old enough to sign out a library card and limiting it to his assignment of forecasting the economic consequences, we are left with these few statements:

"....Combined, these major seismic events have cost hundreds of thousands of lives and billions in damages. The Icelandic volcano has so far just disrupted intercontinental air traffic, and so is negatively impacting the western developed economies."

“....let us for brevity’s sake focus on the potential effects in the U.S."
"...Investors, Be Warned"
"...it would be wise to be careful for yourself and any of your investments on either U.S. coast early this decade"
"...make both yourselves and your investments safe). Major U.S. investments of concern would include such west coast industry stalwarts as computer technology, aerospace, defense, entertainment and food production."
“...seek safety in precious metals and their stocks and in cash."
"...In 2012 I am planning to largely forego investing in any stocks anywhere"

If I am grading this homework assignment, he gets a D+. The only thing keeping this substandard essay from being an "F" paper was the fact that he made an effort to gather some supportive data (prophecies) and he turned his paper in on time. (giving Rick an additional well deserved vacation day).

So, the economic impact is what again??

&&&&&&

The author would doubtless prefer to be graded solely on the accuracy of his forecasts, so I'd say give them some time. For what it's worth, he asked for anonymity because he was genuinely concerned the world would come banging on his door if and when his predictions came true. RA
