Dear Glenn Sir,
Maintain a little situational awareness. You are in a traders forum. Republicans will let reckless traders do what they want and then shake them down once in awhile.
The Democrats want to take a 70 percent cut, and then make the traders sit through political correctness lectures. The bias is a no brainer. The prevailing view in these forums, and a rational accurate view indicate system wide and long term corruption in many of our major institutions, especially in the legislative and judicial branches of government. Both parties own it, and it appears that it is going to take some time to unwind. Go long China and precious metals. Short everything else in the world, and relax.
Of course I am biased! — biased enough that I am going to start purging from this forum the kind of tired old political crap — blaming either the Republicans, or the Democrats — that has made blog-land such a boring wasteland. The “mess” we are in has absolutely nothing to do with Bush I or II, nothing to do with Clinton, nothing to do with the late, great Republican majority in Congress, nor with the Democrats — not even with Barney Frank, the best friend the GSEs ever had. We ALL made it happen, through greed, stupidity and a millennial gusher of hubris. What my commentary said — reread it yourself if you don’t trust me to paraphrase myself — was that the news media are too bloody stupid, cowardly and conventional in their thinking to say that exactly why the stimulus won’t work — can’t possibly work. But don’t blame the Republicans for taking the opportunity to say this themselves by voting against the bill. Neither should we blame the Democrats when it does fail, since, as I pointed out, they had no choice but to vote for an initiative launched and aggressively promoted as the One True Path by a Democratic president. Fair warning: If I see the word “Bush” in any post, I will delete the post. This is Rick’s Picks, not Smirking Chimp.com.

Rick your one of my oldest buddies and a great guy, but you do have a rather biased attitude politically, no offense. Theres something to be said about policy of having the unemployed dig holes and fill them up again.
First, it puts people to work that don’t need much of a skill so the training isn’t expensive and therefore the pay doesn’t have to be great. Second, you don’t expend many RESOURCES digging holes, not much commodities or energy would be used in the project, therefore it wouldn’t be like building a bridge to nowhere which uses a lot of real things, so you save there.
It would make people think they were working and if you paid them the same amount as you would have paid them to collecte unemployment it’s a wash.
People after a good day of hole digging would have too many blisters and back aches etc. to consider rioting.
All in all, if you just paid people to dig holes and fill em up, you’d have more of a stimulus than all this “swag” they’ve just ok’d.
I predict you wont even feel one penny of this stimulus. It will just disappear into a miasma of ineptitude, paradoxism and craveness with people in the end scratching their collective heads and wondering where all the money went to, blaming the wrong people and purposing an even larger “swagulus”.
It’s very sad to see the state of American thinking nowadays, we’ve lost our way and I think Chinas found it.

Instead of the mass layoffs try to keep people on a 4 day week, get infrastructure spending on national assets and nationalize the banks ASAP.
Apart from the first post by John Wison ( his ideas a spot on) this giving trillions away to shore up the banks and then cap salaries at $500k…is dog and pony show.
Cut out Wall Street the middleman. let the Gov’t nationalize the banks and get NOBODY FROM WALL STREET TO RUN THE BANKS.
Wall Street and the Stock mkt is not the economy. Let them go to hell and lynch all the top dogs that created this mess….if they made over 50 million last 20 years from robbing the public companies that they ran…….lynch them, spare no one…”Hang them high” as Clint Eastwood would do. Public hangings did have their merit.
Then when the economy does get back on track, institute Ravi Batra’s wage plan that the top wage earner makes no more than 10% of the bottom wage earner. This goes for all Public companies trading on all stock exchanges. Ok maybe 20%. So if Greenberg and Imelt et al want to make $50,000,000 annually, then the lowest wage earners will make $10,000,000. Well this is not going to happen and so the economy will not again be destroyed by these “Educated” charlatans.
Fire the CPA association. Any accountants that let this fraud keep going on for over 25 years a bunch of useless accountants-nincompoops. Institute a balance sheet item valuing people on the balance sheet. People working in companies should be the most important asset.
This should put America back on track…at least the crooks will be out of dodge…I mean New York.

Greetings Timmy, Brittany, Mikey, Courtney, Jeremy, and Kayleigh,
Check out all the good stuff our benevolent governments wants your grand kids to help pay for, see links below. Come now, just because only one of you is old enough to vote is no reason for our government to not ask for the help of those children, of the children you don’t have yet, to cover the tracks of the criminals in government, industry and the broker/ banking business.
These are some very big and very visible tracks, but our reps can’t seem to find em except when looking for campaign contributions. These are magic tracks that disappear when they look for the criminals.
They know very well what they are doing…by not giving the bill to those of us who are here now, locked and loaded, they think we will let them slide…unfortunately, they are probably right. An easy way to find out is to check to see how many votes the R-CON and D-RAT branches of the tyranny party get in the next horse race, uh election.
All anyone has to do to see what is going on is to watch and listen to the RepubliCONs, who are now denouncing the identical twin of what they supported just a few short months ago because it is put forward by a DemoRAT…hello, is anyone home!!!!
It looks like that $250,000 per job price tag was simply derived by dividing $825 billion by three million, or some such. I wonder if this takes into account the money saved by having these three million people off of roles for welfare and unemployment benefits.
Maybe I’m nuts, but I actually believe that if the money for this comes from monetization (Fed buying “assets” with money from thin air), then the stimulus will “work”. The reason for the quotes is that I hardly think it will get us back to the heady days of credit mania, but it will spare a lot of the “less fortunate” from absolute destitution. And I think that is the nobler goal of the bill.
As much as I blame the Democrats for not making the bill better (i.e., more infrastructure, less pork), I’d like to dash out the brains (figuratively speaking) of some of the Republicans talking about “generational theft”. Where the heck were they when Bush was asking for trillions to let our “military industrial complex” (term coined by Eisenhower, not some leftist punk) blow up Iraq and put it back together, while at the same time cutting taxes on the uber rich, some of whom (hardly all, I know) were the same ones who were practically counterfeiting money and/or running ponzi schemes for themselves while bringing the financial system to ruin.
Hey Reptilcans! You don’t like the bill, not because it is “generational theft”, but because it is Obama’s and Pelosi’s bill and because it transfers wealth from capital to workers and not the other way around. Funny, except for Ron Paul, I don’t hear the same kind of outrage at the vastly larger sums that are being funneled into the black hole of our insolvent financial system.
All that said, I’m no fan of the Dems really either. Even Obama is a disappointment. Next election, if we want REAL change we had better all vote third party. Conservatives can vote Libertarian and Liberals can vote Green, and maybe we can get a government that isn’t nearly totally in the pocket of the elites that have brought this country to such a state of desperation.
