Oops, my mistake..the housing market won’t stabilize until 2012, as the ALT A and Option ARM’s won’t reset until the end of 2011.
What I care about is the monetary policy of governments and what it means to the US economy.
What I care about is deflation/inflation, gold, silver, cash and certain stocks to invest in (or not).
The Stimulus package won’t stimulate. The housing market can’t stabilize until late 2011 at the earliest do to option arm and Alt A resets that peak in late 2010.
To take from those who are most productive to redistribute to those that aren’t won’t help the economy.
What is needed is job creation, which again won’t happen until the housing market is stabilized. The poor don’t hire and the rich are being penalized for making money. This is not a recipe for fixing a sick economy. It’s designed to bring down the economy.

Ha! Mike Huckabee and his kind are the reason the Republicans LOST. FOX (news) and it’s viewers can “hide” or start to find somebody to run other than an old man and a ‘twit’.Someone needs to tell the Evangelicals to go to church and shut up, or the Democrats will stay in power indefinitely. Good article and interesting comments. I too am grateful for some degree of sanity (Fox News) in the midst of all the egregious decisions being made now in DC. We have a modern day Robin Hood running the show, with limited checks and balances in the Congress. He (and his cronies) are willing to spend money to open the dollar flood gates in support of abortion worldwide, and they’re spending tax payer money (or creating money from thin air or borrowing from the world) on a slew of boondoggle pork projects that we don’t need . . . and to do this he’s going to raise the taxes on the folks who already pay the majority of taxes. This makes no freakin’ sense! How best to stifle small business production and growth, decrease GDP, decrease tax base, decrease prosperity — yup, just keep taxing the crap out of the most productive of society. Go for it Obama. You and your cronies appear hell bent on destroying America. Just keep doing what you’re doing and you will succeed.
That said, GW Bush spent money like no other Republican or Democrat before him which, in my mind, was nothing to be proud of. However, as one commentator just said this weekend, Obama has quickly spent more than GWB did in the first five years of his presidency (I have not checked accuracy of this comment). Ahh, yes, isn’t it nice being able to spend and redistribute other peoples’ money. Nothing like having a suave, articulate god-like socialist for a President.

How convenient it is for Gov. Huckabee to ignore or distort history. You’ll remember that former Sec. of the Treasury Paul O’Neill was fired by Bush for opposing the unbridled credit expansion and unbalanced budget of his friends Greenspan and Rumsfeld in order to save us from the mess we are now in. Capitalism can only thrive on credit growth which is derived from increased savings. No savings means no credit which means no capitalism. Gov. Huckabee and his radio friends failed to note that the entire financial system almost collapsed on Sept. 15,2008 when $550 billion was electronically redeemed in the space of a few minutes. If that isn’t a crisis needing fixing what is? The era of Capitalism is over but the right wing is trying to save the unsavable. It is more necessary to advance to the future with whatever that may bring. Without the immediate investment into education, energy alternatives and environmental protections, we have no future. Gov. Huckabee needs to get out of his time warp. DZ

You can’t really blame governments. governments only do what the voters want. In recent years voters have developed a growing sense of ‘something for nothing’ entitlement. They elected governments who promised ‘something for nothing’ and now that the house of cards is collapsing the voters are looking for ‘something for nothing’ solutions. What else can Obama do but tax the minority ‘haves’ and redistribute their wealth to the majority ‘have nots’? Will this solve the problem? No. Voters need to become producers rather than consumers. Then they will vote in governments that reward rather than penalize producers.

As a citizen of a country north and bordering the USA, it is amazing the small percentage of truly independent voters/citizens. Despite the horrific mess the USA is in, people cannot rise above their petty and parochial positions of political affiliations to understand the immensity of this crisis that confronts USA. The GOP is in denial. The Prez inherited the last 8 years of total incompetence. If you do not support whoever is Prez, then kiss your ass goodbye.

Stating that the use of the term odious in conjunction with Fox News discredits whatever else I have to say is completely senseless, and I’m sorry to report does more to cast doubt on your judgement than mine. All statements by me or anyone else must be weighed on their own merits. Whatever I may have said about the weather last Wednesday has no bearing on the substance of what I may say about the weather today.
And putting Neil Cavuto’s putative prowess as an interviewer aside, you might consider just one among reams of evidence pointing to why Fox news is in the aggregate more of a canker sore than not. Now censor away.
Yes, this administration did inherit a bad situation, but from generations of bad management (this includes Clinton). His supposed balancing of the deficit was done by raiding Social Security funds for the future. I don’t think the two party system is serving America well and a day where we all realize that is coming. We are closer to being comrades and us pointing our fingers at others to tell them that capitalism is the way is a joke. I believe other countries are beating us at our own game. Those that are successful and put in the hard work to achieve will not appreciate “spreading the wealth around” to those who chose not to work hard. I am sure someone here will blast me for these views and that is the one beauty left in America….we can.

Great article ! I also can’t believe the left wing comments being posted.
I consider those people as the ones who want something for nothing… Money grows on trees – right! This situation we finds ourselves in has been building for the last 40 years, starting with Johnsons “Great Society” spending spree and Carter’s agenda, of promoting the Comunity Reinvestment Act, etc. Now the final damage has been done in debasing our currency and thereby transfering wealth.
Actually, the Republicans biggest Sin… was acting too much like big spending Democrats over the last few years. And as for FOX NEWS, that’s the only thing that helps me keep my sanity these days… They are only place where one can hear both sides of the story. Of course the Libs hate FOX for that reason.

I don’t think the Obama Administration is intending to save the wealth of the well healed or even the “upper” middle class. His view seems to be that America cannot rebound into a new form of post Capitalist society until all wealth in the hands of individuals is either gone or redeployed in his chosen directions. In other words, level the playing field and make room for the upcoming low income underclass who will be the majorities in 2025.

Rick, as far as I understand as a foreigner, what Mr Huckabee says is addressed to those that borrowed well beyond their real economic means, leading to the present
mess. But would you have lent them the money as your government encouraged to do since at least 2003? The banks did! And everyone with a dime of common
sense saw the storm gathering, as many contributors to Kitco have shown.
But very few spoke out while they were supporting the previous administration.
Did Mr huckabee say anything in the previous five years? Now it’s easy.
And the money lent was yours, but you did’nt realize at the time. Now is the time
to foot the bill of the supposedly free lunch.

Soaking the rich by heavily taxing incomes over $200,000 (or any such number) prevents people from becoming financially independent, perhaps even rich. Taxing incomes is not taxing wealth. If government really wants to soak the rich, it should tax (seize) wealth, not incomes…. such as a 10% levy on the assets of Warren Buffett and the like.

Interesting commentary. Most interesting are the sums you subtract from the 100k of disposable income, assuming that is not a lowball figure. As a lower income worker, I can do all of the debits, college, insurnace, mortgage for the price of 1 of them. I have had to because my wages haven’t kept up with inflation, deflation, crooked government, crooked wall street, crooked courts and police, crooked education, crooked immigration etc, etc. I did not vote for the Obamanation and do not trust his cabinet of retreads. However, we have to either lower spending or raise taxes or both. I do not consider Fox “odious” and agree with you on Cavuto. I appeal to you not to censor commets. The rich will always be able to avoid the pain by various means, special write-offs, frauds engineered by lawyers and accountants, offshore accounts, and the latest swindle the “charitable” trust. The real target and the biggest loser in this game will be the middle class who in general still prefer to abide by conventional rules(paying bills, paying taxes, working etc etc) They are trapped in the perfect storm. The industries that they work in have been taxed by affirmative action, government regulation, class action lawsuits, product liability suits etc until they cant compete. Corporate America then ships the whole kit and kabboodle overseas. Their savings have been destroyed by the financial collapse engineered by the kleptocrats who dont understand fiduciary responsibility, and the MBA’s who can neither figure out the law of leverage nor understand that markets go up and down. They have been assaulted by 35 million illegal aliens whose employment has destroyed whole sectors of the economy by leaving legitimate rule and law abiding businesses in an uncompetitve position, aliens whose real cost is assumed by the state. They have faced a government which by misfeasance, malfeasance and nonfeasance, aided abetted permitted approved or legislated all of the factors enumerated above, and which government has just attempted to solve the mess by inflicting a multigenerational tax liability on them. And finally, an administration emerges whose idea of a stimulus is a huge transfer to non producers and the erection and refurbishment of palaces in Wash DC to house the gigantic government they foresee as the “future”. It is the middle class that sits in ground zero—the producers—the goose that lays the golden eggs. This goose is being cooked, and will never permitted protection under any Federal Endangered Species legislation.
Politics of envy my Aunt Minnie. The fat cats, and I’m not talking about people who make 207,000 a year, have been waging class warfare for eons. Get real. While Karl Marx was wrong about the path of history leading to the dictatorship of the proletariat, he nailed the ills and internal contradictions of capitalism, as well as the behavior of the plutocracy who have done far more damage to our national ship of state than the ill advised stimulus package is likely too.
Of course we can’t spend money we don’t have and expect prosperity to result, but I don’t need to hear that lecture from anyone in D.C. And while Hickabee isn’t a product of D.C., he still works for the odious Fox (isn’t) News.
