Index futures were wafting higher on pathetic volume early Wednesday morning, hinting that the weak short-squeeze characterizing Tuesday’s price action is still in effect. One of these days the broad averages are going to break out of the consolidation pattern that has limited their upper and lower boundaries for the past month. Today, perhaps? I doubt it, but we shall see.
