Getting Sentimental

Stocks will be on their own Friday, since June consumer sentiment numbers due out are unlikely to cause even a ripple on Wall Street. The data represent a survey of 600 households, and the results usually correlate with consumer spending.  Most of us are already feeling the pinch by the time these indicators hint of a downturn, but sometimes they will surprise with a burst of giddiness that seems to have come from out-of-the-blue. Relative to your own life, would you regard a spike in consumer sentiment as bullish, or bearish?

“I, …, do hereby swear, before the Great and Living God, that during my engagement, and while I am an employee of Russell, Majors, and Waddell, I will, under no circumstances, use profane language, that I will drink no intoxicating liquors, that I will not quarrel or fight with any other employee of the firm, and that in every respect I will conduct myself honestly, be faithful to my duties, and so direct all my acts as to win the confidence of my employers, so help me God.”

    — Oath sworn by Pony Express Riders[11][12]

The identity of the first westbound rider to depart St. Joseph has been disputed, but currently most historians have narrowed it down to either Johnny Fry or Billy Richardson.[29][44][45][7] Both Expressmen were hired at St. Joseph for A. E. Lewis’ Division which ran from St. Joseph to Seneca, Kansas, a distance of 80 miles (130 km). They covered at an average speed of 12 1⁄2 miles per hour (20 km/h), including all stops

In 1860, riding for the Pony Express was difficult work — riders had to be tough and lightweight. A famous advertisement allegedly read:

Wanted: Young, skinny, wiry fellows not over eighteen. Must be expert riders, willing to risk death daily. Orphans preferred[a]

——–The Pony express did not last long at all.

……..I doubt few ‘if any’ could even think a 6660.00 print on the INDU ever again.

    Have a great weekend Rick.
