The High Point of the Rock Era

Although we used to feature edgy market commentaries in this space, the time and effort spent crafting them is now devoted to making the Rick’s Picks Trading Room an absolutely unbeatable source of timely, profitable ideas for novices and professionals. I must also confess that your editor was deeply tired of having to write regularly about a stock market energized by clueless money managers whose only “skill” is recklessly throwing Other People’s Money at some moronic investment-theme-of-the-week. Truth to tell, having to take the stock market seriously every week wore me down. You know it and I know it: It’s just an epic con-job, created to enable The Elect to make vast sums of money without having to lift a finger or get their hands dirty.

You should make a habit of checking here weekly, since I will continue to post links to my latest interviews and to offer visual enticements designed to entertain, enlighten and even warn you. Much of it will come from YouTube, since their video catalog is vast and endlessly fascinating. Submissions, including home videos, are welcome and should be sent to this address.

To view this week’s electrifying offering, click here for what I consider to be the high point of the 1960s rock era. This is Santana’s rendition of Soul Sacrifice, and it features a drum solo by 20-year-old Michael Shrieve that may remind you of the Buddy Rich clip on display here a few weeks ago. I wasn’t at this Tanglewood show in 1970, but I saw Santana perform Soul Sacrifice later that summer at the Holland Pop Festival. It was one of the most exciting live performances I’ve ever witnessed, and although there was no extended drum solo, Gregg Rolie’s soaring, percussive keyboard solo drives the beat so ferociously that it has become iconic among rock fans.

The analytical ‘touts’ listed below, overhauled each Sunday and updated 24/7 during the week, will continue as always, as will their barbed emphasis on the striking similarities between Wall Street and a sleazy carnival midway. The ridiculous accuracy of our trend calls and price targets is well known and a matter of daily record, but it must be observed up-close, and leveraged with actual trades, to be believed. On a recent Friday, for instance, we recommended buying QQQ 720 put options that were trading at the time for 1.67 if and when they came down 0.27. They did, bottoming at 0.25 exactly on schedule before rocketing to $3.55 in under 30 minutes, and then to 5.05 shortly thereafter. Just four options purchased initially at the recommended price for a total of $108 could have been cashed out an hour later for a little for than $2000. And there was more. Separately, December Wheat took a powerful leap precisely to a $7.83-per-bushel target that we’d “guaranteed” would be reached the day before.

$CLV26 – October Crude (Last:91.48)

0

The chart says last week’s high at 93.14 is about as high as crude prices are going to rise over the near term. There is just a little more room to the upside, with a theoretical ‘cap’ at 94.04. Does this portend an end shortly to the Mideast war and an easing of energy prices? If the chart is right, it’s difficult to imagine another outcome. However, I’ll allow for one alternative scenario nonetheless: a head-fake to 99.34. That’s a midpoint HP resistance culled from a continuous weekly chart, and although its resistance will not likely work out precisely to-the-penny, it is good enough for government work. If, heaven forbid, the futures were to break out above that number, it would open up a path to as high as 115.48, or even 131.63

$TNX.X – Ten-Year Note Rate (Last:4.78%)

0

Rates on the Ten-Year Note broke out on Friday to a multiyear high at 4.81%, presumably on their way up to the 5.09% target shown in the chart. The good news is that that’s probably as high as they are likely to rise over the next few months. The bad news is that only a severe economic downturn could conceivably keep them from rising any further. The wild card would be a global outbreak of peace and good feelings amidst growing despair that Trump and Iran’s mullahs can come to terms. Hormuz should become less of a concern in any case, since ample quantities of oil appear to be getting to buyers despite Iran’s blockade. Also, it’s possible that the increasingly stringent economic sanctions will finally bring Iran around.

$ESU26 – September E-Mini S&P (Last:7722.00)

Thursday’s poke marginally above the green line was a signal to short this gas-bag — although not too aggressively, as I warned in the chat room.  I’ll suggest paper-trading this opportunity just for the informational value, unless you are comfortable use a ‘camouflage’ trigger to drastically reduce entry risk. (The tactic is described in detail in the free source I’ve made available to legacy subscribers and new ones who have signed up for a full year.)  Concerning the trading signal, we should expect it to bring the futures back down to the red line (p=7637.75), at least, where we would typically take a partial profit. Permabears looking for an October ‘surprise’ should take note, however, that the worst this pattern foresees over the near term is a 3.6% fall to d=7437,00
